I’ve always identified myself with the lone traveller in Edward Hopper‘s paintings such as Automat, Compartment C,Car, and New York Movie. Many would think they are sad figures but I think there is a certain dignified air about them. Quoting Alain De Botton in his book “The Art of Travel“;

“…, home appeared to have betrayed them, forcing them out into the night or onto the road.”
